Iraq's Hafaya gas processing plant project held a grand commissioning ceremony

On the morning of June 8, the opening ceremony of Iraq's Hafaya Gas Processing Plant (GPP) was held. Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Soudani, Deputy Prime Minister and Oil Minister Hayan Abdel Ghani, and Dai Houliang, chairman of the group, jointly turned the valve and delivered a speech at the commissioning ceremony.

On the day of the celebration, the weather was clear, and the guests in the Halfaya oilfield were flooded with a happy atmosphere. More than 3,000 Chinese and foreign employees worked hard for 5 years, nearly 1,800 days and nights, and finally ushered in this highlight moment of project production. Many local people and officials gathered at the scene to witness the completion and operation of this key project for the development of Iraq's natural gas industry, and expressed their praise for the Chinese petroleum project builders.

Sudani, together with Hayan and Dai Houliang, opened the intake valve of the GPP device. With the rotation of the valve, the torch that has been burning for ten years at the second central processing station of the Halfaya oilfield slowly extinguished. At this point, all the associated gas in the Halfaya field will be processed by the GPP unit, and the black smoke generated by the torch will become the history of Halfaya. Loud applause broke out. Prior to the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Soudani visited the GPP project control room and was briefed on the project construction process.

In his speech, Sudani thanked the participants for their contributions and efforts to the smooth operation of the project, praised the project of the Halfaya Gas treatment plant as a model of China-Iraq cooperation, and highly appreciated the continuous deepening of exchanges and cooperation between Iran and China in the field of energy, providing strong support for the effective use of natural gas and ensuring the demand for electricity in Iraq, promoting the improvement of people's livelihood and promoting people-to-people exchanges. In the future, it is hoped that the two sides will continue to work hand in hand to strengthen practical cooperation in the field of oil and gas, solidly promote the implementation of more energy cooperation projects, and drive and promote economic and social development.

In his speech, Dai Houliang said that the operation of the gas processing plant project is not only an important milestone in the development of the Halfaya oilfield, but also a new starting point for further deepening cooperation. Petrochina will continue to work closely with all partners to continue to promote the development of the Halfaya oilfield. Before the celebration ceremony, Dai Houliang kindly visited the frontline staff of the project, extended festive greetings and best wishes to everyone, listened to a brief introduction of the project construction process, and visited the project control room.

Introduction to the GPP project in Halfaya

The Hafaya GPP project is invested by petrochina (Iraq) Hafaya Company, and CPECC is responsible for the EPCC and two-year operation and maintenance of the project. The project is located in the east of Halfaya oilfield, close to Halfaya CPF2 and the main power station of the oilfield, covering an area of 500,000 square meters. Associated gas and condensate from the three central processing stations in the Halfaya field are sent to the GPP project for processing, with a designed processing capacity of 3 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year and 950,000 tons of condensate per year. The main products include: clean natural gas 2.25 billion cubic meters/year, liquefied petroleum gas 870,000 tons/year, C5+ light hydrocarbons 910,000 tons/year and sulfur 15,000 tons/year.
